LoWER CASE BREWING

Since my wife and I moved to South Seattle a few years ago, the Georgetown neighborhood has been one of our favorite spots for food and drink and the occasional get-togethers with friends. I am also a fan of the afternoon pint and weekend yard work so some Saturday and Sundays I stop by Harbor Freight and get some landscaping items and then slake my thirst and assuage my hunger at one of the fine watering holes on the Georgetown strip.

Just south of the Georgetown strip and on the perimeter of Boeing Field, sits Lowercase Brewing. It is on the site of a former welding shop and they have kept that sign to pay respect to the blue collar neighborhood that Georgetown used to be while serving up a hops hotspot catering to the Amazon/techie crowd that is making actual blue collar worker sightings in Seattle more rare than November sunshine.

I joked with the bartender that that they should find some actual welders and have them parade in around shift change at 5 p.m. in weathered coveralls to give the joint some industrial authenticity.

I enjoyed some great beer on this Saturday afternoonincluding two pints of the Strata IPAa cloudy West Coast varietal with hints of grapefruit, an amalgam of hops and notes of pine with a drinkability that belies its 6.0 ABV. I also had a 2-ounce taster of its award winning Rye IPA, which I liked but did not love like its signature Strata IPA.

I am a fan of finding a beer I like (I like IPAs mostly and rarely stray) and Strata IPA from Lowercase meets my litmus test. It is simply delicious.
